Google acquires Jaiku
Oct 9th, 2007 by dabloguiman
An interesting move happened today in what may be Google’s next step in its efforts to revive social networking as part of their global strategy.
I mentioned yesterday that Google was getting ready to launch Orkut 2.0.
Today Jaiku announced that they are being acquired by Google.
With the acquisition of Jaiku Google will gain access to Jaiku phone, IM and SMS applications, and an open API for developers to hack all kinds of new applications.
Very likely the next step will be to integrate Jaiku in an open Orkut environment which could then become a formidable competitor for Facebook and other social networking sites.
And of course, it may also have something to do with the GPhone.
It is turning out to be an interesting end of the year in the Web 2.0 universe.
